Chinese, Russian officials talk about UN role

Visiting Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Shen Guofang and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov said it is important to strengthen the United Nations' role in international affairs and the two countries should furtherboost cooperation.

Visiting Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Shen Guofang and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Yuri Fedotov said it is important to strengthen the United Nations' role in international affairs and the two countries should furtherboost cooperation.

In the talks held Friday in Moscow, Shen, who was attending an anti-terrorism meeting here by the two countries, and Fedotov talked about the issues related to Iraq, the Middle East, Afghanistan and UN reforms.

The two officials reached consensus on the necessity of multilateralism in the current world order and the importance of an enhanced UN role in international affairs.

The two agreed that their countries should further strengthen cooperation within multinational institutions such as the United Nations, saying this will serve to improve the strategic partnership between the two countries and is conducive to world peace and stability.
