China attracts US$53.5 bln foreign investment in 2003

China actually utilized 53.5 billion US dollars of foreign investment in 2003, up 1.44 percent from the previous year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

China actually utilized 53.5 billion US dollars of foreign investment in 2003, up 1.44 percent from the previous year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

In 2003, China approved 41,081 foreign funded firms, an increase of 20.22 percent over the previous year, and the contractual foreign investment reached 115.07 billion US dollars, 39.03 percent higher than that of 2002.

By the end of 2003, China had altogether approved 465,227 foreign funded companies, whose contractual investment totaled 943.13 billion US dollars.

The ten biggest investors in 2003 are Hong Kong, Virgin Islands, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United States, Taiwan, Singapore, Western Samoa, Cayman Islands and Germany.
