Chinese President Hu Jintao to visit four nations

Chinese President Hu Jintao will pay a state visit to France, Egypt, Gabon and Algeria from January 26 to February 4 at the invitation of the presidents of the four nations.

Chinese President Hu Jintao will pay a state visit to France, Egypt, Gabon and Algeria from January 26 to February 4 at the invitation of the presidents of the four nations.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan announced the news Thursday at a regular press conference.

President Hu Jintao will confer with French President Jacques Chirac on international and regionalissues of common concern during his visit to France, said Kong.

Hu would meet with French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin too, and also possibly attend activities of China CultureYear, Kong added.

Kong noted that Sino-French ties had grown smoothly ever since the two nations forged a comprehensive partnership oriented to the21st Century in 1997.

President Hu's upcoming visit to Egypt will further strengthen ties for mutual benefit.

During his visit, noted the spokesman, President Hu would hold talks with Egyptian President Muhammed Hosni Mubarak, and meet with parliamentary leaders.

Sino-Egyptian relations had developed rapidly since the two countries established their strategic and cooperative relationshiporiented to the 21st Century in 1999, and bilateral cooperation inall fields expanded, Kong acknowledged.

The Chinese president will pay state visits to France, Egypt, Gabon and Algeria from Jan. 26 to Feb. 4 at the invitation of President Chirac, President Mubarak, Gabonese President El Hadj Omar Bongo Ondimba, and Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Chinese state councilor Tang Jiaxuan and Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing will accompany President Hu during the four-nation trip.
