Yao Ming scored 14 of his 21 points in the third quarter to lead the Houston Rockets to a 93-80 win over the Washington Wizards in Washington on Jan. 13.
Yao, who did not play for most of the fourth quarter, had 11 rebounds in 33 minutes to open Rockets' three-game trip in the east.
Steve fell short of a triple-double, finishing with 16 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds as all the five starters of the Rockets scored double-digit.
The Rockets overcame 21 turnovers with 35-68 shooting in the field.
"We made 21 turnovers, but shot the ball really well. That helps us a lot," Houston's coach Jeff Van Gundy said.
After opening the game with a 19-5 spark, the Rockets lost the temper and let the home team come up to usurp the lead at 39-32 with 3:31 left in the first half.
Yao stepped up in the third quarter, scoring 12 points after he was severely fouled by Brendan Haywood and landed heavily on the floor with 5:16 left in the quarter. He got up one minute later and buried all the eight free throws of the quarter to give the Rockets a 64-54 lead with 3:25 left. "I felt a little bit dizzy but I was fine. I played as normal after that," Yao said.
But Yao played only two minutes in the fourth quarter as his teammates extended the lead.
"This is the fourth consecutive game that I didn't play much in the fourth quarter," Yao said.
