PLA extends Lunar New Year greetings to HK residents
Commander of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Garrison in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) Wednesday extended his festival greetings to local residents on the eve of the traditional ChineseNew Year, which falls on Jan. 22.

Commander of the PLA Garrison in the Hong Kong SAR, Wang Jitangsaid that under the leadership of the Hong Kong SAR government with Tung Chee Hwa as its head, Hong Kong residents dealt jointly with the challenges facing them over the past year, such as the outbreak of SARS and economic difficulties.
All circles of the Hong Kong community are actively implementing the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement with the mainland, and Hong Kong's economy is picking up, said Wang in his greetings.
"We are very grateful to the SAR government and local residentsfor their full understanding and strong support for the PLA Garrison," said Wang, adding that the PlA Garrison will continue to adhere to their duties and secure the security and peace of Hong Kong.
He expressed the hope that the SAR government and local people make greater success in 2004.
