Leading N. China port city reports rise in foreign trade
Imports and exports through Tianjin, the largest port city in north China, reported a 26.4 percent rise year-on-year in foreign trade to 46.17 billion US dollars in 2003, according to local customs.

The total included 20.2 billion dollars in imports, up 23 percent, and 25.9 billion dollars in exports, up 28.9 percent.
General trade volume reached 26.5 billion dollars in 2003, up 31 percent year-on-year, accounting for 57.6 percent of the local total foreign trade.
Trade volume by local overseas-funded companies reached 22.25 billion dollars in 2003, up 25 percent, with the volume by state-run enterprises rising 20 percent to 18.99 billion dollars, and that by private firms soaring 160 percent to 2.97 billion dollars.
Electronic and electric products are the leading commodities oflocal foreign trade and their trade volume reached 8.46 billion dollars in 2003, up 18.2 percent year-on-year, with the volume of machinery products rising 24.8 percent to 5.77 billion dollars.
