Developed and developing nations should strengthen cooperation for a common prosperity, urged the Chinese and US participants to the 12th annual meeting of the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF) Tuesday.
Phil English, member of the US House of Representatives, said that along with globalization, nations become more dependent on each other. Asia-Pacific nations should join their hands to realize free trade and the development of the regional and global economy, said English.
Ni Yuefeng, member of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, said developing nations, because of their poor situation, usually can not take advantage of the opportunities that globalization has brought about.
Therefore, developed nations shoulder their responsibilities, such as opening their markets in a larger degree, abolishing trade barriers and reducing debts, said Ni.
In the 21st century, which witnesses the fast growth of globalization, Ni said, different cultures and civilizations should learn from each other and maintain a balanced development of economy and society.
Ni suggested all nations talk with each other to find out measures and mechanisms to carry out the consensus that have been reached by international communities.
Differences exist between developed and developing nations, but more importantly, they have a common task, that is, to develop more close trade partnership, said English.
English said it will be win-win for both developed and developing nations to build trade ties on the basis of mutual benefit.
Founded in 1993, the forum with its 27 member states is an important inter-parliamentary organization in the Asia-Pacific region.
