2003: cell phone short messages sent broke through 220 billion

In 2003 China witnessed a rapid growth of cell phone short messages. There were more than 220 billion messages sent. Market for message value-added service amounted to more than 20 billion Yuan.

In 2003 China witnessed a rapid growth of cell phone short messages. There were more than 220 billion messages sent. Market for message value-added service amounted to more than 20 billion Yuan.

According to surveys, between the two big mobile communication service operators in China, China Mobile contributed to 170 billion short messages whilst China Unicom made up 50 billion. Among various value-added services mobile chat and game are the most welcomed. Second to them were entertainment messages including funny stories and jokes. News, financial and economic information and mobile pictures and ring downloading followed them. It was also shown that Multi-media short messages and interactive games are powerful growth points.
