HKSAR Basic Law to remain: FM spokesman
The Basic Law of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) cannot be annulled nor will the HKSAR be destabilized, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan Sunday.
The Basic Law of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) cannot be annulled nor will the HKSAR be destabilized, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan Sunday.
Kong made the remarks when asked to comment on US Senator Sam Brownback's attacks on the HKSAR Basic Law and Chinese government and his proposal for a substitute for the Basic Law.
The senator's attacks on the Basic Law and the Chinese government were unreasonable, he said.
The Basic Law was the fundamental law of the HKSAR, he said, stressing it was the legal guarantee for the principles of "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong" and a high degree of autonomy for the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong.
Political institutions of the HKSAR should developed gradually according to provisions of the Basic Law and practical circumstances.
