Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei, who arrived in Gaza City Sunday night, chaired a meeting of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) cabinet in Gaza City on Monday as Israel tightens its security measures in the West Bank.

Cabinet ministers from the West Bank arrived in Gaza late on Monday after they managed to leave their towns, where the Israeli army imposed a tightened siege and closure on them.

Any Palestinians, including the PNA ministers, should get the Israeli permission to travel from Gaza Strip to the West Bank and the opposite way when they should travel though Israel.

It is the first PNA cabinet meeting chaired by Qurei in Gaza since he became the new PNA prime minister to replace former Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas.

The previous cabinet meetings chaired by Qurei were all held in the West Bank town of Ramallah, or in the town of Abu Dis near Jerusalem. Abu Dis is the home town of Qurei where his office is based.

Palestinian sources close to Qurei said that several issues are on the agenda of Monday's cabinet meeting.

The escalation of the Israeli military action and the tightening of Israeli security measures would be on top of the agenda, they said, adding that the political process and the renewal of talks with Israel would also discussed at the meeting.

The issue of declaring a Palestinian Hudna (truce) with Israel, and the renewal of the inter-Palestinian dialogue will also be among the issues to be dealt with.

In addition, the meeting would focus on the issue of administrative and financial reforms in the PNA security and civil establishments, the sources said.
