Israeli Intelligence says Syria serious about renewing peace talks
Israel should very seriously consider remarks made recently by Syrian President Bashar Assad onresumption of peace talks between the two countries, military Intelligence Chief Aharon Ze'evi Farkash told the cabinet on Sunday.
Israel should very seriously consider remarks made recently by Syrian President Bashar Assad onresumption of peace talks between the two countries, military Intelligence Chief Aharon Ze'evi Farkash told the cabinet on Sunday.
"Syrian President Bashar Assad's remarks regarding negotiations with Israel are very serious," Farkash was quoted as saying byIsrael Radio.
According to the general, Assad's gesture was in response to Washington's pressure on Damascus, the present US control over Iraqand an interest in taking advantage of the standstill innegotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.
Meanwhile, Farkash accused Syria of continuing to fund Palestinian terror organizations and the Lebanese Hezbollah guerilla group.
"Syria continues aiding Hezbollah and Palestinian terror groups, mainly the Tanzim PLO-related group, in financial and other ways,"Farkash said.
