Greek Prime Minister Costas Simitis sent a message of condolences on January 3 to French President Jacques Chirac on the deaths of 135 French tourists.

Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampihas sent a message of condolences to French President Jacques Chirac for the victims of an Egyptian charter jet crash in Sharm el Sheikh, the presidential Quirinale Palace said on January 3.

Most of the 148 people killed in the crash of the Boeing 737 were French tourists.

The plane crashed into deep water in the Red Sea early on January 3 soon after takeoff for what now appears to be mechanical failure.
