Beijing sees fiscal revenues rise in 2003 despite SARS

Fiscal revenues in Beijing reached 59.25 billion yuan (7.14 billion US dollars) in 2003, up 18.2 percent from a year earlier, the municipal finance bureau reported Thursday.

Fiscal revenues in Beijing reached 59.25 billion yuan (7.14 billion US dollars) in 2003, up 18.2 percent from a year earlier, the municipal finance bureau reported Thursday.

It was the ninth consecutive year of rising revenues.

The municipal government adopted 20 policies in 2003 to ease tax burdens on sectors hit hardest by the severe acute respiratorysyndrome epidemic, including catering, entertainment, hotels, tourism, public transportation and civil aviation services, to help the businesses return to normal.

Beijing generated 312 billion yuan (37.6 billion dollars) in gross domestic product from January to November 2003, up 10 percent year-on-year.
