An explosion in a fireworks factory killed at least 29 workers on Tuesday morning in northeast China' s province of Liaoning.

Nineteen injured people are being treated at a local hospital.

Local government officials said the dead were all workers at the factory in Shuangmiaozi Town, Changtu County of Tieling City.

The blast occurred at about 9:50 a.m., said police. It flattened the company's two workshops and tore apart the roof of the four-storey office building.

Homes about 100 meters from the workshops were damaged by the resulting fire, witnesses said.

Firefighters had extinguished the blaze and police are investigating the cause of the blast.
