A US soldier was killed and five others were wounded in a twin bomb attack in Iraq's capital city of Baghdad on Sunday, the US military and witnesses said.

"One US soldier was killed in action, five were wounded in action, in a twin IED (improvised explosive device) blast," said a US military spokesperson.
The wounded were evacuated to military facility, added the spokesperson. The death brought to 12 the number of US soldiers killed by hostile fire since the US forces captured former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Dec. 13.
Eyewitnesses said two Iraqi children were also killed in the deadly blast, which went off in Karrada district in eastern Baghdad early Sunday.
At least nine others were wounded including an Iraqi translator working with the US patrol and several members of the Iraqi civil defense corps.
