China's per capita GDP to top US$1,000

China is expected to register per capita gross domestic product (GDP) of over 1,000 US dollars this year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

China is expected to register per capita gross domestic product (GDP) of over 1,000 US dollars this year, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Manufacturing was the dominant force for the industrial growth,which was characterized by the soaring consumption of autos and mobile phones this year.

Hi-tech industries contributed 23.7 percent to the industrial growth.

Statistics also show that the real estate industry and private investment greatly boosted the economic growth.

Economists forecast that China's GDP will exceed 11 trillion yuan (1.33 trillion US dollars) in 2003, a year-on-year increase of 8.5 percent.
