Vice-Premier Huang Ju had a meeting with some delegates to a national conference on civil aviation Monday, and he called for deepening the reform of the country's civil aviation sector and improving its efficiency, so as to realize a fast development of the industry.

The official, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, praised the civil aviation departments for their achievements in 2003, which, he said, were hard-earned, especially because of the outbreak of SARS.

While the local civil aviation industry has set records in both the amount of shipment and the number of safe flights, noted progress has been made in restructuring the industry, he said.

Huang urged the civil aviation departments to pay greater attention to the issue of safety. The industry should further develop and improve, in order to meet the ever-increasing market demands, he noted.
