Friends and relatives of Michael Jackson gathered Saturday on his Neverland Ranch in southern California to show their support for the US superstar charged with child molestation.

Nearly 50 cars entered the main gate of Neverland Ranch to attend the holiday party held for Jackson and a dozen of his fans and at least six news crews gathered at the gate, witnesses said. 2

Some of his supporters put up signs in their cars, including one that reads, "Michael is innocent!! Leave him alone!!"

The number of attendants is still unclear, but Jackson's spokesman Stuart Backerman has said Friday that as many as 600 people could attend, including some celebrities, whose names were not released.

Jackson was formally charged on Thursday by Santa Barbara County's District Attorney Tom Sneddon with seven counts of performing lewd or lascivious acts upon a child under 14 and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent.

The 14-year-old Los Angeles boy is reportedly suffering from cancer and had spent time at Neverland Ranch early this year when the alleged molestation took place.

Jackson, released on Nov. 20 after posting a 3-million-dollar bail, will face trial on Jan. 16, 2004.

But before that, he will fly to England at the end of this month to fulfill unspecified contractual obligations. He is also expected to promote his latest CD, "Number Ones."
