Vice-Premier Huang Ju spoke at Sunday's national working conference on labor and social security work, calling for great efforts to increase job opportunities, build up a social security system, and protect the rights of workers.

Over the past year, the Chinese government focused on the issue and adopted a series of new resolutions and policies, despite negative impacts of the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), he said.

As the New Year and traditional Spring Festival holidays approach, labor and social security departments should try to help people who were struggling to find work, Huang said.
