Afghanistan has promised to cooperate with China in fighting four newly listed "Eastern Turkistan" terrorist groups, a Foreign Ministry spokesman said Sunday in Kabul.

Briefing reporters on an earlier meeting between Afghan Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah and a Chinese delegation, spokesman Omar Samad said the two sides identified terrorism as a common concern and agreed that international cooperation is very important for regional security.

"China has recently listed four groups as terrorist organizations in China that have links with international terrorism, and Afghanistan will cooperation with China in this regard," said the spokesman.

He was referring to the four "Eastern Turkistan" terrorist groups identified by the Chinese government last week: East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), East Turkistan Liberation Organization (ETLO), World Uygur Youth Congress (WUYC) and East Turkistan Information Center (ETIC).

The four groups have conducted terrorist activities in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and other areas, aimed at splitting China, including bombings, murders, arsons, poisonings and assaults.

The "Eastern Turkistan" groups are reported to have close connections with Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda network and Afghanistan's ousted Taliban regime.

China has called for international support against the four terrorist groups through disbanding them, banning their activities and freezing their assets in the world.

According to Samad, the Afghan minister during the meeting expressed his thanks to the Chinese government for its support forpolitical and economic development in Afghanistan in the past two years since the Taliban regime was ousted.

He also reiterated the Afghan government's support for "One China" policy with regard to the Taiwan issue.

The visiting Chinese delegation, led by Deputy Foreign MinisterLu Xinhua, is in Kabul to attend a ceremony marking the completion of the renovation project of the Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan, which had been badly damaged in the Afghan civil war in 1990s.
