Yang Pu rumored to join Southampton

Chinese soccer international Yang Pu was about to follow his national teammates Sun jihai and Li Tieto serve an English Premier side, as Southampton showed interests in him, according to a local newspaper.

Chinese soccer international Yang Pu was about to follow his national teammates Sun jihai and Li Tieto serve an English Premier side, as Southampton showed interests in him, according to a local newspaper.

Yang Pu confirmed that the England club had made contact with him through a sport agent, reported Beijing Star daily on Thursday.

"It's true that the English Premier club Southampton is intent to sign me, but yet far from making a deal on transfer or loan," Yang was quoted by the capital-based newspaper.

"I was no longer young, and it might be the last chance for me to play abroad," said Yang.

The Beijing Guo'an playmaker has drawn mass favor from Europeansoccer clubs, such as Hearts of Scottish premier league and several Spanish sides, since he was listed in the club's first-choice squad of the Chinese first division soccer league in 1998.

It was said a team from Italian Series A was also interested inthe 25-year-old Chinese defender.
