Delphi, a world leader in mobile electronics and transportation components and system technology, launched its 33rd global research and development center in Pudong New District of Shanghai Wednesday.
Guy C. Hachey, deputy president of Delphi, said the new R and D center would have labs and office rooms with and an area of approximately 40,000 sq m, and would be staffed by 1,400 people.
The new center, to be built at the cost of 50 million US dollars, will be ranked the fifth among all of Delphi's global research and development centers in terms of scale, said Hachey.
The Delphi deputy president hoped that the new R and D center would attain world standards by designing and development capability: being capable of designing and developing various kinds of automotive components, and of doing systematic developments and integration as well.
Upon completion, the center will not only provide services to Chinese clients, but offer services to other customers of Delphi outside China. A large number of Chinese technological workers would be sent to the Europe and the United States for training programs ranging from six month to one year and a half, Hachey said. The first group of 68 chosen trainees will soon leave for their overseas training program.
