Premier Wen tables proposals on China-Ethiopia ties

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with his Ethiopian counterpart Meles Zenawi on Monday morning,putting forward three proposals to further enhance all-around cooperation partnership between China and Ethiopia.

Wen Jiabao meets Ethiopian counterpart

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with his Ethiopian counterpart Meles Zenawi on Monday, putting forward three proposals to further enhance all-around cooperation partnership between China and Ethiopia.

Wen said the Chinese government attaches great importance to the development of Sino-Ethiopia relations.

In order to further enhance all-around cooperation partnership between the two countries, Wen put forward three proposals, which include:

-- To maintain high-level exchanges between the two sides, improve mutual trust, jointly enhance cooperation in different areas;

-- To broaden cooperation fields, improve cooperation efficiency, emphasize and strengthen mutual-beneficial cooperation in such areas as agriculture, human resource development, infrastructure development and tourism; and

-- To intensify consultation and cooperation, safeguard the rights and interests of developing countries, actively promote the establishment of a fair and just new international political and economic order.

Wen highly appraised the rapid development of China-Ethiopia relations since the two countries established diplomatic relations33 years ago.

He thanked the Ethiopian government for adhering to the One-China policy, as well as its support to China in areas including human rights.

Speaking on the same occasion, Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi highly commended the important achievements made in such areas as politics, economy and trade in the Ethiopia-China cooperation.

He believed bilateral relations was ushering in a new era of all-around cooperation.

He said the Ethiopian side is earnestly expecting new forms of bilateral cooperation, and better implement of follow-up actions of China-Africa Cooperation Forum.

He underlined that he is confident about the bright future of the Ethiopia-China all-around friendly cooperation.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao, his host counterpart Meles Zenawi and a dozen of African heads of state or government attended the opening ceremony of the Second Ministerial Conference of China-Africa Cooperation Forum on Monday morning.

Also present were Chinese and African foreign ministers and ministers in charge of international economic cooperation.
