Road accidents claimed the lives of 95,479 people in China in the first 11 months of the year, down by 4.74 percent from the same period last year.
According to a bulletin released Tuesday by the Office of the Spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Public Security, there were 617,294 road accidents across the country from January to November, leaving 457,261 people injured, plunging by 13.89 percent and 12.12 percent.
The road accidents in the past 11 months caused a combined direct economic loss of 3.11 billion yuan (about 375 million US dollars), slightly up from the same period last year.
In November alone, there were 54,153 highway accidents in the country, down by 19.58 percent, leaving 9,939 people dead, down by 0.33 percent, and another 40,420 people injured, down by 14.61 percent. The highway accidents caused 280 million yuan (about 33.74 million US dollars) in direct economic losses, a decrease of 5.25 percent.
