Big arch truss bridge to be built in Guangzhou
Construction of a big steel truss bridge with its main arch spanning 428 meters, the largest bridge of its kind ever built in China, will be started on Dec. 19 in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province in the south, according to the company in charge of the project.

At cost of more than 400 million yuan (about 48 million US dollars), the Xinguang bridge, to stride the Pearl River, is expected to be completed in two years and open to traffic in 2005, said the bridge engineering corp. in southwest Guizhou Province.
Three sections of the bridge's mail arch will be raised for connection in the air, the first time in China to use this method to build a bride with a big span.
