Environmental labeling to promote China's green economy
Environmental certification will help Chinese enterprises to overcome the green barriers posed by WTO requirements, Chen Yanping, a senior official of China's environment watchdog, said Wednesday.
Environmental certification will help Chinese enterprises to overcome the green barriers posed by WTO requirements, Chen Yanping, a senior official of China's environment watchdog, said Wednesday.
As the director of the Environmental Certification Center of the State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA), Chen made this remark at a seminar on China's environmental certification system held in Beijing.
Chen said more than 60 billion yuan (about 7.25 billion US dollars) of made-in-China products have got the environmental certificates and are labeled as environmentally friendly.
China's environmental labeling system is designed to encourage enterprises to manufacture environmentally friendly products in clean production process. It grants certificates and labels to those enterprises who pass all the tests on both product quality and production process.
The standards of these tests are in compliance with the international ISO14020 system, Chen noted.
According to SEPA, only the China Environmental United (Beijing) Certificate Center Co., Ltd, once affiliated with SEPA, is authorized to grant certificates. No foreign organization is allowed to start this business in China yet.
