In a visit to Nepal, China's top advisor Jia Qinglin said the new Chinese leadership attaches importance to the development of friendly and cooperative relations with Nepal.

Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks in Kathmandu on Tuesday while meeting with Parasu Narayan Chaudhary, chairman of the Raj Parishad of Nepal, and Taranath Ranabhat, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nepal.

Jia Qinglin said Sino-Nepalese bilateral relations are rooted in equal and sincere treatment, mutual support and generations of friendship and should stand as an example for relations between other countries. He says China will be a reliable friend to Nepal and provide support despite regional and international changes.

Jia Qinglin appreciated Nepal's support on issues concerning China's sovereignty such as Tibet, Taiwan and human rights issues. He also says Nepal is the first tourist destination in south Asia that opened to Chinese tourists and both sides can make use of tourism cooperation to strengthen bilateral non-governmental exchanges.

Ranabhat said Nepal hopes to continuously enhance people-to-people contacts and expand cooperative spheres with China. He says Nepal will abide by the one-China policy unswervingly and support China on such issues as Taiwan, Tibet and human rights. He stresses that Nepal will not allow anti-China activities on its territory.

Nepal is the fourth leg of Jia Qinglin's visit to five south Asian nations after India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. He is also scheduled to visit Pakistan.
