An expo aiming to help Hong Kong's small- and medium-sized enterprises, as well as companies from the Chinese mainland and overseas, to identify and capitalize on opportunities arising from the Mainland/Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) was opened here Tuesday.
The expo, sponsored by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC), is held just one month before CEPA comes into force, and isthe largest CEPA promotional event since the signing of the agreement in June.
TDC Chairman Peter Woo said at the opening ceremony that CEPA opens a new era of cooperation between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland, and creates a new era of opportunity for Hong Kong and mainland companies.
"With CEPA, there is also new scope for partnerships between Hong Kong and overseas companies to access the mainland market," said Woo.
The mega CEPA promotion event is supported by departments of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, trade and industries-related public organizations, private enterprises, trade organizations and authorities from mainland provinces and cities.
Over 160 organizations and companies, including more than 40 delegations from the Chinese mainland, are attending the two-day event.
TDC's Executive Director Michael C C Sze described the expo as a one-stop shop for participants to access useful information and advisory services, as well as explore business opportunities related to CEPA.
"It is a not-to-be-missed event for local small- and medium-sized enterprises, as well as enterprises from the mainland and overseas," said Sze.
"CEPA opens the door wider for Hong Kong companies to enter themainland market but different industries are subject to different entry thresholds. As well, different provinces and cities will adopt varying incentives upon CEPA implementation so opportunitieswill vary among different localities," said Sze.
"The expo is therefore perfectly timed to give Hong Kong companies the opportunity to gather all the useful and authoritative information under one roof and maximize the benefitsof CEPA," he added.
The expo features five thematic pavilions: Facilitation and Information, Trade Promotion, China Opportunity, China Trade Service, and Industry Support.
In addition to an exhibition, around 100 seminars and forums, as well as almost 30 business matching sessions will be held during the expo.
