Residents of Zhaosu County in China's far western Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region receive life and medical care from local government and are going out of panic despite the great damage and inconveniences caused by Monday's earthquake.
According to statistics released by China Seismological Bureau, up to now 10 people were killed and 40 were injured in the earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale.
An official of the local government said that although a few aftershocks were still felt, people were feeling less panicked.
Li Bo, an official with Ministry of Civil Affairs, said with temperatures hitting 17 degrees below centigrade and the 30-cm-thick snow, the government of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region had sent over 1,000 tents and life necessities to the quake-hit area shortly after the earthquake happened.
Li said among 6,000 earthquake victims, 5,414 were settled down, and the rest would receive life and medical care no later than Tuesday.
Delegegyab, a survivor of the earthquake, expressed his gratefulness for the rescue and relief work of the government.
"No one expected the earthquake," he said. "I am sad and depressed about losing friends and relatives in the disaster."
"However, officials of the local government as well as the border troops came to rescue and help us within half an hour and this really encouraged and moved us," he said.
