Chinese center Wang Zhizhi signed a two-year contract with the Miami Heat on Monday after theclub released forward Tyrone Hill, according to Wang's agent Chen Weiming.
The contract will bring Wang a total of 1,400,000 dollars with 600,000 dollars for the first year and 800,000 for the second, Chen told Xinhua on Monday.
Rather than picking the shirt of No. 16 as in Dallas Mavericks and LA Clippers, Wang, the first ever Chinese player in NBA, preferred the No. 15 shirt, the same number with what he had been worn in Chinese national team.
Wang played in only two games for the Los Angeles Clippers thisseason and appeared in 41 games in the last season before being waived on November 21.
The 7-foot-1 center, who was originally picked by the Dallas Mavericks in the second round (36th overall) in the 1999 NBA Draft, has averaged 5.0 points and 1.9 rebounds in 103 NBA games.
Hill, a 35-year-old who signed with the Heat on Nov. 7, appeared in five games, averaging 1.8 points and 1.6 rebounds. (Xinhua)
