China to build on cooperation with Bangladesh: Jia

China will continue to expand cooperation with Bangladesh in various fields on the current basis,said Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consult ative Conference (CPPCC), Monday in Dhaka.

Jia Qinglin holds talks with Bangladesh President
China will continue to expand cooperation with Bangladesh in various fields on the current basis,said Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consult ative Conference (CPPCC), Monday in Dhaka.

Jia, who is here on an official goodwill visit at the invitation of Speaker of the Bangladeshi Parliament Barrister Muhammad Jamiruddin Sircar, made the remarks on Monday at a meeting with Bangladeshi President Iazuddin Ahmed.

The CPPCC chairman pointed to the friendship and cooperation between the two countries and said Sino-Bangladeshi friendship should be carried forward from generation to generation.

China will treat neighbors in a friendly way and as partners, and China's relations with its neighbors, including Bangladesh, will have an all-round and in-depth development.

Ahmed said Bangladesh and China will be good friends forever and he hopes that the exchange of high-level visits will continue.

He said the two countries, sharing common views on many major international issues, have had close cooperation and coordination in international affairs and it is their common objective to safeguard world peace and stability.

In his talks with Sircar here on Monday, Jia spoke highly of the Sino-Bangladeshi bilateral friendly relations with fruitful cooperation in various fields since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1975.

He said the new Chinese leadership will continue to follow an independent foreign policy of peace and continuously strengthen friendship and cooperation with neighboring countries and regions.

China and Bangladesh, with a sound cooperative basis, have all the conditions for furthering cooperation, the CPPCC chairman stressed.

Sircar mentioned the friendly and close cooperation between the two countries in the past years and said China is one of the most important cooperative partners of Bangladesh.

Voicing his admiration for China's achievements in various fields, Sircar said the Bangladeshi people wish that China would continue to make progress.

After the talks, Jia and Sircar attended a signing ceremony for bilateral agreement on economic and technological cooperation, and an implementation plan on bilateral cultural cooperation from 2004to 2006.

Jia also met separately here Monday with Chairman of BangladeshAwami League Sheikh Hasina, Bangladeshi Finance Minister M. SaifurRahman, Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan, and President of Bangladesh-China Friendship Society and Minister of Health and Family Welfare Khandker Mosharraf Hossain.

Bangladesh is the third leg of Jia's visit to five South Asian countries.

Jia visited India and Sri Lanka before coming here and will go on to visit Nepal and Pakistan.
