Construction on a power plant that will have a 2.4- million-kw installed capacity has been started in Changzhou, east China's Jiangsu Province.
The power plant is built at a cost of 12 billion yuan (1.44 billion US dollars), funded jointly by the China State Power Groupand four companies in Jiangsu.
During the first phase of construction of the plant, situated on the southern bank of the Yangtze River, two 600,000-kw China-made supercritical coal-fired generators will be installed.
The power plant is expected to greatly ease the shortage of power supply in the Yangtze River delta areas, where demand for power supply is soaring as increasing overseas investment is injected into local manufacturing sectors.
