HK to issue new banknotes
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and Hong Kong's three note-issuing banks announced here Sunday that the new series of 100-HK- dollar (12.8 US dollars) and 500-HK-dollar (64.1 dollars) banknotes will be put into circulation from Dec. 15, 2003.

The two new banknotes will be available for exchange in all branches of the three note-issuing banks of Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited, Standard Chartered Bank and the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, starting on Dec. 15, 2003.
New notes for the remaining three denominations of 20 HK dollars, 50 HK dollars and 1,000 HK dollars will go into circulation in the second half of 2004. All existing banknotes will continue to be legal tender and to circulate along with the new banknotes.
