The Bank of China (BOC) on Friday began to issue RMB credit cards in Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), which was the first of its kind after the bank's 53-year exposure in Macao.
The credit cards were jointly issued by the Macao and Zhuhai branches of BOC and the BOC Credit Card (International) Ltd. The launching ceremony was held here Friday.
Zhang Hongyi, director of the BOC Macao, said that with an increasingly close exchanges between Macao and the Chinese mainland, the mainland recorded more than 1.95 million arrivals of Macao residents in 2002. The issuing of RMB credit cards would facilitate their travels in the mainland, and help diminish the bank's cost in Macao patacas and RMB credit card transactions.
With the RMB credit cards, Macao residents can draw money from BOC's ATM machines 24 hours a day.
