Vajpayee does not rule out meeting with Jamali

Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday did not rule out a one-to-one meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on the sidelines of the SAARC summit in Islamabad in January.

Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday did not rule out a one-to-one meeting with his Pakistani counterpart Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali on the sidelines of the SAARC summit in Islamabad in January.

Asked whether there would be a one-to-one meeting between him and Jamali, he told reporters in Lucknow of Uttar Pradesh that "my program of going to Pakistan is being prepared and I will meet everyone there."

According to the Press Trust of India, when asked whether there would be a one-to-one meeting with Jamali, he quipped, "I will be happy if Jamali meets me."

Asked about the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the prime minister said this matter was being looked into by the defense personnel and expressed hope that the truce would hold.

"The defense personnel are looking into it. I hope that the ceasrfire will hold," he said.
