Ceasefire will last long: Indian PM

In his first public comment on the border ceasefire, Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Wednesday expressed confidence that the truce would last long and cross-border terrorism would end, according to the Press Trust of India.

In his first public comment on the border ceasefire, Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee Wednesday expressed confidence that the truce would last long and cross-border terrorism would end, according to the Press Trust of India.

"After long persuasion, Pakistan has agreed for the ceasefire and I am sure it will last long," Vajpayee was quoted as saying while speaking at an election rally in Raipur in central India's Madhya Pradesh.

He expressed the hope that cross-border terrorism will end and the Indo-Pak relation will improve.

India and Pakistan Tuesday agreed to observe a ceasefire from midnight along the International Border, the Line of Control (LoC)and in Siachen in Jammu and Kashmir.
