Ceasefire good for regional peace, prosperity: Pakistani official

Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan said Tuesday that ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC), which divides the disputed Kashmir region, will do good to peace and prosperity in South Asia.

Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan said Tuesday that ceasefire on the Line of Control (LoC), which divides the disputed Kashmir region, will do good to peace and prosperity in South Asia.

He made the remarks while talking to state-run Pakistan Television (PTV), noting that Pakistan is in a bid to bring India to the dialogue table for the solution of bilateral issues, including the core issue of Kashmir.

India and Pakistan have fought three wars, two of which were triggered by the Kashmir dispute. Forces of both sides have been exchange sporadic fire on the LoC.

Pakistan Sunday officially proposed a ceasefire on the LoC fromthe upcoming Islamic Eid festival, which was welcomed by India.

The spokesman said the overall response by India on the ceasefire offer is "positive."

However, he said, India repeated its stance that Pakistan firsthas to stop "the border infiltration" in Kashmir, which is regretted by Pakistan.
