The troops of India and Pakistan are to observe a ceasefire from midnight (1830 GMT) Tuesday along the international border, the Line of Control (LoC) and in Siachenin Jammu and Kashmir.

The decision was taken by the Directors-General of Military Operations of the two countries during their weekly hotline conversations on Tuesday, Indian External Affairs Ministry said.

They "agreed to observe a ceasefire with effect from midnight tonight along the International Border, LoC and Actual Ground Position Line (AGPL) in Jammu and Kashmir," said the ministry.

India said Monday it would respond positively to Pakistani Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali's announcement that Pakistani troops would observe unilateral ceasefire on the LoC from Eid day that marks the end of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan.

New Delhi said durable ceasefire could hold only if Pakistan stopped cross-border terrorism and offered a ceasefire along AGPL in Siachen, the world's highest battlefield.

Pakistan immediately welcomed India's response, saying its ceasefire offer included Siachen.
