China to enhance friendly cooperation with Thailand: defense minister

China will continue to enhance the friendly cooperation with Thailand in various fields, said Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan in Beijing Tuesday.

China will continue to enhance the friendly cooperation with Thailand in various fields, said Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan in Beijing Tuesday.

Cao, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, made the remark during a meeting with Thai Army Commander-in-Chief Chaisit Shinawatra and his party.

China and Thailand, as close neighbors, have enjoyed a good-neighborly partnership with mutual respect and support for a long time, Cao said, adding that a frequent exchange of high-level visits in recent years have effectively promoted the Sino-Thai friendship.

China's new leadership will, together with the Thai side, continue to strengthen the friendly ties with Thailand and move the extensive cooperation to a new high, he noted.

Cao acknowledged that the defense departments of the two countries have maintained close exchanges and conducted effective cooperation, thus adding new contents to the development of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Chaisit Shinawatra extended his congratulations for China's successful launch of the Shenzhou-5 manned spacecraft, and expressed his appreciation for China's achievements made in state and army building.

He also voiced his hope of strengthening cooperation with the Chinese armed forces, so as to further promote the multi-layer bilateral ties in various fields.
