The Indian government said on Monday that it welcomes Pakistan's announced unilateral ceasefire along the Line of Control that divides disputed Kashmir.

"We welcome the announcement" of a unilateral cease-fire with effect from the holy occasion of Eid, India's foreign ministry spokesman Navtej Sarna said at a news briefing Monday. "We will respond positively to this initiative," he said.

However, he added, "in order to establish a full cease-fire on a durable basis, there must be an end to infiltration from across the Line of Control."

Pakistani Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali announced Sunday that the Pakistani soldiers would stop firing across the Line of Control on Eid, the festival that marks the end of the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan which is likely to fall on Wednesday.

Sarna also said that to take the process further, India proposed a ceasefire in Siachen.

Sarna further said India also welcomed Pakistan Government's decision to work for expanding communication links, proposed by New Delhi on October 22.

"We now propose immediate technical level talks for early implementation of these proposals," he said.
