Emirates to launch passenger flights to Shanghai

The Dubai- based airline Emirates will open new gateways on four continents including passenger services to Shanghai next year, the airline said here Monday.

The Dubai- based airline Emirates will open new gateways on four continents including passenger services to Shanghai next year, the airline said here Monday.

"There is no global financial crisis, unless you treat international airline as one composite business which they are not.The further east you go, the brighter the picture." Maurice Flanagan, vice chairman and group president of Emirates said at the Industry Leader Luncheon hosted by the Aerospace Forum Asia onMonday in Hong Kong.

Following its highly successful cargo-only services to Shanghai,the airline will introduce passenger services to its first destination on Chinese mainland next April. It will make four flights a week from April 10 and start daily flight from May 15, operated with an A340-300 in three-class configuration, according to the airline.

In addition to Shanghai, the airline plans to open five more new destinations in 2004 including the US, Glasgow, Vienna, Lagos and Accra in a network expansion spread across four continents, itsaid.
