India will have its own payload going around the moon in another four years to study the lunar surface, which would throw light on the origin of the universe, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) chairman G. Madhavan Nair said on Friday.

"It will also help create a scientific temperament in students. Now it is for the space community to absorb the challenge and perform," Nair said while inaugurating the 40th anniversary of launching of "sounding" rockets from the Thumba Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala state of southern India.

Observing that ISRO's activities took birth at Thumba, he said the ambition now was to go to the moon. "We are at a stage to create space-loving launch vehicles," he said.
