Brazilian Congress leaders meet visiting senior Chinese official

Leaders of the National Congress of Brazil met with visiting senior Chinese official Zhang Dejiang in Brazilia Tuesday, stressing the congress' priority of developing Sino-Brazilian relations.

Leaders of the National Congress of Brazil met with visiting senior Chinese official Zhang Dejiang in Brazilia Tuesday, stressing the congress' priority of developing Sino-Brazilian relations.

Jose Sarney, president of the Brazilian Federal Senate, and Joao Cunha, president of the Chamber of Deputies, warmly welcomed the Communist Party of China (CPC) delegation led by Zhang, memberof the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretaryof the CPC Committee of Guangdong Province.

During the meeting, Sarney recalled his numerous visits to China since 1988. He said as an old friend of the Chinese people, he has high esteem for the economic and social progress China has made.

Cunha briefed Zhang on the domestic development in Brazil since President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva Lula assumed power last January, saying that the Brazilian economy is on the path to recovery and has begun to show signs of growth.

They also said it is Brazil's priority to develop its strategicpartnership with China, and they are willing to promote exchanges and cooperation between governments, parties and congresses of thetwo countries.

Zhang said China and Brazil are two developing countries with mutually supplementary economies and have great potential for cooperation. The CPC and the Chinese government cherish Sino-Brazilian relations, and hope for more fruitful cooperation in politics, economy, technology and trade, he said.
