At least 23 people were killed andover 100 others injured Saturday in two explosions caused by carbombs in Istanbul, local TV channels reported.
One of the blasts took place in a synagogue in downtown Istanbul, the largest city of Turkey, the CNN Turk TV channel said.
Interior Minister Abdulkadir Aksu was quoted as saying that the latest death toll stood at 23.
Local 6 Haber TV quoted a Turkish witness as saying 50 peoplewere injured in another blast that occurred near a tax departmenton Osmanbey Suleyman Naci Street.
The injured were taken to Sisli Etfal hospital, the witness said, adding that the explosion shattered the windows of many buildings in an area of almost 200 square meters.
"There was a big noise. We first thought it was an earthquake. Windows of buildings were shattered and started to fall on us. Itwas like a war field," another witness said.
Many people, who were injured in the blast the Neve Shalom Synagogue at the intersection of Beyoglu Buyuk Hendek Street andKuledibi Street, were taken to nearby hospitals.
According to preliminary reports, about 30 injured people weretreated in Sisli Etfal hospital, 40 in Taksim hospital, three in Haseki hospital and nine in a hospital of Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine.
