A senior official of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) said Thursday that his country favors a just and mutually acceptable solution to the nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula.

"Pyongyang is ready for a constructive search for a just and mutually acceptable solution to the problem," DPRK Ambassador to Russia Pak Ui Chun told Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Losyukov at a meeting in Moscow.

The solution should guarantee not only the non-nuclear status of the peninsula but also security to all regional countries, including the DPRK, and favorable conditions for their social and economic development, a press release of the Russian Foreign Ministry quoted the ambassador as saying.

The diplomats discussed preparations for the possible second round of the six-nation talks on the Korean Peninsula's nuclear problem, but the press release does not elaborate on the subject.

Losyukov stressed at the meeting that Russia maintains permanent contact with interested parties on the matter.

Russia has suggested that the second round of six-party talks be held in January next year, noting that there was no urgent need to convene it within this year.

Losyukov, who is in charge of relations with Asian countries, said on Wednesday that Russia did not object to holding the secondround of talks on the subject in December.

Commenting on the Russian-American consultations on the Korean settlement set for Nov. 24-25, Losyukov noted that "by the end of November, we will have a picture of what can be discussed during the second round."

The first round of negotiations on the DPRK nuclear issue was held in Beijing in late August with the participation of representatives of Russia, the United States, the DPRK, South Korea, Japan and China, but no agreement was reached on the date for the next round of such talks.
