The Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology invited scientists from all over the world, including several Nobel laureates, to provide advice at a forum on science and technology development planning for the coming two decades.
At the international forum's opening ceremony Thursday in Beijing, State Councilor Chen Zhili said that the advice from well-known scientists would be cherished by decision makers of the Chinese government.
Chen said that the long-term planning for science and technology must be kept abreast with international scientific research trends.
Chen said China is willing to carry out international scientific exchanges and cooperation in line with the principles of treating each other equally, sharing research findings, protecting intellectual property and respecting international practice.
Chen also held discussions with excellent overseas Chinese scholars.
Italian physicist Carlo Rubbia, Chinese-American Chen Ning Yang, both Nobel Prize winners, and Oh-Kab Kwon, vice minister of Science and Technology of the Republic of Korea, spoke at the forum.
