An Olympic promotion video "New Beijing, Great Olympics", directed by internationally-acclaimed Zhang Yimou, has won three top awards at an international festival.
The Beijing Organizing Committee for the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG) told a press conference on Wednesday that they were pleased to see the video has a big hit at the recent "Sport Movie & TV - 21st International Festival" in Milan, Itlay.
The film has made history when it won the "Eberhard & Co" Award for the best production, the award of "Guirlande d'Honneur" (Garland of Honour) and the "Musee Olympique Award" that was specially set by the Musee Olympique Lausanne.
"It's a big surprise that all the prizes went to one entry," BOCOG vice president Jiang Xiaoyu said, "That is unprecedented in the 21-year history of the festival, sponsored by the International Sporting Film and Television Federation."
Besides approval of producers and sports movie experts, the video drew attention and applaud from spectators as well when it was played in cycles on a giant LCD screen at the renowned center square of Milan. It was also re-played at the closing ceremony.
The film, as part of Beijing's bid for the 2008 Games, was first put on in Moscow where the International Olympic Committee (IOC) chose Beijing as the host city on July 13, 2001. It showcases the Chinese people's enthusiasm for the Olympic Movement and their promise to stage a best-ever Olympic Games.
