As an effective way to train millions of Chinese rural cadres, distance education should be extended all over the country after testing, a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said in Guiyang Wednesday.
He Guoqiang, member of the Political Bureau and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, observed distance education in rural areas during his Nov. 9-12 inspection tour to southwest China's Guizhou Province.
He said distance education could improve the political and cultural levels of rural cadres, boost the information industry and agricultural industrialization in rural areas, and narrow the gap between rural areas and cities.
As a way to train rural cadres and benefit farmers, pilot distance education schemes should be actively implemented and extended to other provinces, said He.
He also stressed that the pilot should be launched according to existing resources, and not aggravate the economic burden of farmers.
During his inspection, he visited some villages, pilot distanceeducation stations, heard suggestions from farmers and local departments, and brought gifts to some poverty-stricken peasants.
