President Hu holds talks with Zambian president
Chinese President Hu Jintao reached extensive consensus on Chinese-Zambian relations and issues of common concern with visiting Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa in their talks here Thursday.

Hu said the friendly cooperation between China and Zambia, initiated and cultivated by older generations of leaders in both countries, has experienced international vicissitudes and changes of political situation in the two countries.
The two countries have exchanged high-level visits, continuously increased their political trust with each other, enriched content of bilateral trade and economic relations, said Hu, citing that the two countries always support and cooperate with each other in international affairs.
Hu said China highly valued and thanked the Zambian government's stand on sticking to the "one-China" policy and supporting China's peaceful reunification.
China will be more active in promoting trade and economic cooperation with Zambia and hopes to reach common prosperity on the basis of mutual benefit and reciprocity, Hu said.
Hu also stressed strengthening consultation and coordination with Zambia on international issues.
Mwanawasa said the Zambian people would always remember the friendship from the Chinese when his country was faced with difficulties after independence.
The railway connecting Tanzania and Zambia, which was constructed with the help of China, symbolized friendship from the Chinese people toward the Zambian people and African people, Mwanawasa said.
He said Zambia will always adhere to the "one-China" policy and will continuously develop cooperation with China.
He suggested that the two countries could enhance cooperation in tourism, manufacturing, agriculture and resources development.
Hu said China has established a good relationship with African countries. The new leadership of China will continue the traditional friendly stance to various countries in Africa and solidify the time-honored friendship between China and Africa.
Mwanawasa highly valued China's role in solving international and regional disputes as well as safeguarding legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.
He said his country shares similar opinions with China on many international and regional issues and is willing to further enhance cooperation.
After the presidential talks, the two sides signed an agreement on economic and technological cooperation.
