Palestinian Prime minister Ahmed Qurei is expected to visit Russia late in November, Palestinian Ambassador to Russia Khairi al-Oridi said Wednesday. But he gave no details about the aim and agenda of the upcoming trip.

"This visit may take place in the period from the middle to the end of this month, after Qurei finishes creating his new cabinet and after the cabinet is approved by the Palestinian Parliament," Interfax news agency quoted al-Oridi as saying.

Qurei began to head an emergency government early last month and announced as the cabinet expired at midnight Tuesday that he would present a new one to the parliament for approval next week.

The announcement of Qurei's visit came only one day after Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon wound up his three-day workingvisit to Russia. Sharon tried to dissuade Moscow from seeking a UNendorsement of the roadmap peace plan on the Middle East, but he failed to get any favorable promise.

Russia, one of the four sponsors of the "roadmap," is seeking the UN Security Council's approval of the peace plan to make it anaccepted international plan to solve the Israeli-Palestinian dispute.

Sharon insisted that Israel only agree to implement the roadmappeace plan until after the Palestinian leadership is replaced.

Meanwhile, al-Oridi confirmed reports that high-ranking Palestinian and Israeli officials have resumed contacts to try to achieve a new truce and to put the peace process back on track.

He also said the Palestinian leadership welcomes an alternativeMiddle East settlement plan, which was drafted by Palestinian officials and Israeli political opposition with Switzerland's assistance. The document is expected to be made public in Geneva on Nov. 20.
